This was a collaborative effort between Living Earth Structures, Artist Building Communities and Essential Food & Medicine. We worked with the residents of the Wood St Encampment in Oakland to build a community gathering space to provide a kitchen, shower, toilet, clinic sleeping space, free store and garden. The structures were all built out of recycled pallets covered in an earthen cob plaster. They were able to be forklifted onto a trailer and moved to another location when it was necessary to do so. The City of Oakland was very interested in this design and considered using it as an alternative to their unpopular Tuff Shed solution for housing folks. The artistic component as well as the volunteer support made this a very appealing model which could be easily duplicated here on Maui.
